ScenoLab is a national collaborative network for researchers and educators in performance design, architecture, interior and spatial design, and performance technologies. Our aim is to bring together the growing body of Australian researchers specialising in scenography and performance design. Many of us are actively involved with international research networks yet lack a home where we can share our achievements and advance the national dialogue on performance design.
ScenoLab will provide a space to share research and pedagogical advancements in all areas of design for performance, including spatial, set, costume, lighting, and sound, through to intermedial design practice and digital scenography. We welcome all educators and researchers whose work intersects with the concerns of scenography, be it questions of space, time, audience, technology, aural, visual, material, and environmental aspects of performance environments.
We are committed to working with other peak research and professional bodies to advance the industry through shared resources and expertise. ScenoLab, focused on performance design education and research, will complement existing organisation such as the Australian Production Designers Guild (APDG) and Australasia’s largest performance research network – Australasian Association for Theatre, Drama and Performance Studies (ADSA)The Centre has already begun to collaborate with ADSA, launching a new Scenography Working Group nested within its annual conference as a space to share new ideas and research.
Our goal is to foster the exchange of knowledge and best practices in our field. Our vision is to create a vibrant and inclusive community of practitioners and scholars dedicated to advancing performance production, design, and architecture in Australia.
ScenoLab Australia is a not-for-profit, cultural organisation operating as an associated incorporation within Queensland (IA4772240) and is a registered Australian business (ABN 79 563 599 201).
